STAMBAUGH NESS EARNS TOP RECOGNITION York, PA, October 28, 2010– Stambaugh Ness CPAs/Business Consultants is pleased to announce that the PICPA, on behalf of the AICPA peer review program, has accepted its 2010 peer review submission, which included a pass rating. Peer review is a periodic outside review, performed by another accounting firm, of a firm's quality control system as it relates to its accounting and auditing practice. Peer reviews are intended to maintain and improve the quality of the accounting and/or auditing services performed by firms.
Receiving a pass rating for peer review is similar to the unqualified opinion letters which clients receive when audited. It provides additional assurance that proper compilation, review, and audit procedures and policies have been established by the firm and are being followed in a consistent manner. The possible peer review ratings are pass, pass with deficiencies, and fail.
Peer review was established by the AICPA in order to promote the highest level of quality service to the client. It is a way of insuring that all public accounting firms adhere to the same level of quality service. The program is dedicated to enhancing the quality of accounting, auditing and attestation services performed by AICPA members in public practice.
A peer review includes an assessment, by an independent reviewer, that the public accounting firm has established and follows policies and procedures such as: • Audit procedures • Proper preparation of supporting workpapers • Quality controls over financial statement preparation • Quality controls over continuing education requirements and knowledge of the industries which they serve • Policies covering independence • Other issues which affect the overall quality of the work performed
Peer review is required for all firms that are members of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA).
